چکیده

In view of the fact that oil spill remote sensing could only generate the oil slick information at a specific time and that traditional oil spill simulation models were not designed to deal with dynamic conditions, a dynamic data-driven application system (DDDAS) was introduced. The DDDAS entails both the ability to incorporate additional data into an executing application and, in reverse, the ability of applications to dynamically steer the measurement process. Based on the DDDAS, combing a remote sensor system that detects oil spills with a numerical simulation, an integrated data processing, analysis, forecasting and emergency response system was established. Once an oil spill accident occurs, the DDDAS-based oil spill model receives information about the oil slick extracted from the dynamic remote sensor data in the simulation. Through comparison, information fusion and feedback updates, continuous and more precise oil spill simulation results can be obtained. Then, the simulation results can provide help for disaster control and clean-up. The Penglai, Xingang and Suizhong oil spill results showed our simulation model could increase the prediction accuracy and reduce the error caused by empirical parameters in existing simulation systems. Therefore, the DDDAS-based detection and simulation system can effectively improve oil spill simulation and diffusion forecasting, as well as provide decision-making information and technical support for emergency responses to oil spills. Using Weibull probability distribution to calibrate prevailing wind applying in oil spill simulation

In the Persian Gulf, the major source of oil pollution is related to the transportation of tankers, offshore production and discharges by coastal refineries. The water dynamical field has been obtained using a new hydrodynamic model. Local wind is recognized as the principal driving force combining to the water dynamic field to determine oil drift on the sea surface. The Weibull probability dis...

Oil Spill Monitoring in the Croatian Adriatic Waters: needs and possibilities

The Adriatic Sea is a semi-enclosed sea of the European side of the Mediterranean, covering 138 595 km2 and containing 35 000 km3 of sea water (LUŠIĆ & KOS, 2006). It exchanges its waters with the greater Mediterranean through the Otranto Strait at an approximate rate of 3.3 years (FRANIĆ, 2005), although turnover time varies from 1-5 years when determined with A set of spaceborne synthetic ape...

Investigation of Oil Spill Distribution in the Southern Caspian Sea Affected by Seasonal Variability Impacts

Because of environmental sensitivity of the Caspian Sea, any subsea oil spills and blowouts can inflict destructive impacts on marine environment and cause catastrophic damage in the area. Employing mathematical simulation is one of the easiest and most effective prediction tools for understanding the oil spill behavior under various environmental forces. In this regard, Mike3D simulation packa...

A MODIS-Based Robust Satellite Technique (RST) for Timely Detection of Oil Spilled Areas

Natural crude-oil seepages, together with the oil released into seawater as a consequence of oil exploration/production/transportation activities, and operational discharges from tankers (i.e., oil dumped during cleaning actions) represent the main sources of sea oil pollution. Satellite remote sensing can be a useful tool for the management of such types of marine hazards, namely oil spills, m...
